Why I’m Building FreeMinecraftServers.cloud (And Why It Feels Like Coming Full Circle)

Every now and then, an idea sticks in your head not because it makes the most sense on paper, but because it pulls you back to a time when building things was purely about fun, curiosity, and seeing what might be possible. FreeMinecraftServers.cloud is one of those ideas. I’m building it with my friend Ryan Johnson, and in many ways, it feels like we’re closing a loop that started well over a decade ago. Back to the Alpha and Beta Days Ryan and I have both been playing Minecraft since the late alpha and early beta days. Like a lot of people from that era, we might not play as much as we used to, but we’ve always kept an eye on how the game and its community have evolved. Back in those early days, we didn’t just play Minecraft. We ran servers. One of them was Craftia , which at its peak was one of the largest Minecraft servers in the world at the time. That alone still feels a bit surreal to say out loud. What makes it even more ridiculous is how we were running it. We were hosting this hugely popular server on a tiny setup
